Basic knowledge of copper

28 June 2024 | by XinDian Copper

Copper, also known as red copper, is a pure form of copper, usually containing more than 99.9% copper, and has excellent electrical and thermal conductivity. There are many types of copper metal products, which can be divided according to different standards.

The following are some common copper products and their classification methods:

Classification by form

1. Plate (Copper Plate)

Thick Plate: Thickness greater than 5mm.

Thin Plate: Thickness between 0.1mm and 5mm.

Foil: Thickness less than 0.1mm.

2. Rod (Copper Rod)

Round Rod: The cross section is round.

Square Rod: The cross section is square.

Hexagonal Rod: The cross section is hexagonal.

3. Tube (Copper Tube)

Seamless Copper Tube: No welding, integrally formed.

Welded Copper Tube: Formed by welding process.

4. Wire (copper wire)

Bare copper wire: Copper wire without insulation.

Insulated copper wire: Copper wire covered with insulation.

5. Strip (copper strip)

Narrow strip: Width less than 300mm.

Broadband: Width greater than 300mm.

Classification by use

1. Electrical copper

Cable and Wire: Used to transmit power and signals.

Busbar: Used in power distribution systems.

2. Architectural copper

Roofing material: Used for building roof covering.

Pipeline system: Used in water supply and heating systems.

3. Industrial copper

Heat sink: Used for heat dissipation of electronic equipment.

Heat exchanger: Used in heat exchange equipment.

4. Decorative copper

Sculpture: Used for artistic sculptures and decorations.

Furniture: used to make high-end furniture and decorations.

Classification by processing technology

1. Hot-rolled products: formed by rolling at high temperature.

2. Cold-rolled products: formed by rolling at room temperature, with higher dimensional accuracy and surface quality.

3. Extruded products: formed by extrusion process, usually used for bars and tubes.

4. Stretched products: formed by stretching process, often used for wires and thin strips.

Due to its excellent physical and chemical properties, copper has a wide range of applications in electricity, construction, industry and art. According to specific uses and requirements, choosing the appropriate copper product type and processing method can give full play to its characteristics and advantages.
