Leaded Copper
Leaded copper is a copper alloy containing lead, which is usually added to improve the machinability and workability of copper. As an effective solid lubricant, lead can significantly reduce friction and wear during cutting, making lead-based copper alloys excellent in machining, especially suitable for the manufacture of parts requiring fine machining, such as high-precision threads and complex shaped components. In addition, lead can also give copper alloys better toughness and fatigue resistance, which is very useful in the manufacture of springs and wear parts. However, due to the toxicity of lead, lead-based copper alloys are limited in applications that may involve lead exposure risks, such as food processing, water supply systems, and children's toys. When using leaded copper alloys, appropriate safety measures need to be taken to control lead exposure and to find more environmentally friendly alternative materials.
